Never Stop Exploring
Whether you are traveling the globe or standing on your mat, remain curious and aware for around every corner is a new discovery.
Asana Practice: My wrist injury prevents me from putting any weight on my right hand. Therefore, I’m taking things very slow and focusing on going deep. I’m currently in Aruba where the weather is very warm with a nice breeze. This helps my body open up with less effort. Specifically, I’m spending time opening up my psoas, hip flexers, hamstrings, and doing deep twists. I am keeping things simple and observing the changes that are occurring in my physical, as well as, my energy body.
I’m on the first real vacation, where the goal is to sit around and do nothing, in close to 10 years. I’m not on a retreat, or being a tourist. I’m just relaxing. Being able to truly let go while having the gentle pulse of the ocean near by has me in a constant meditative state. I’m honoring this natural gift by spending a lot time in lotus both at the beginning and end of my practice.
The magic and depth of meditation never ceases to amaze me. As I sit still, I am reminded of the endless discoveries that can come when you surrender deep in to the body.
I’ve wondered lately why I feel the need to physically journey when the body is an equally complex map in which to travel. Perhaps I enjoy seeing the similarities in both the external and internal worlds. The artist in me enjoys drawing the metaphorical parallels.
Perhaps instead, I am motivated to share the life I am living with people in different areas. I consider myself a cultural diplomat, bringing the best in teachings and inspiration from one part of the globe to the next. After all, we all learn differently. We are all inspired by different things. Different cultures have different tastes and sensibilities and express the same message differently. We can hear the same message again and again, and one day or one way may be enough for us to truly get it.
Lesson Learned: Think of every moment as an adventure or an exploration. Remain curious both on and off your mat and honor the curiosity of others. Don’t be afraid of what you might find in an unchartered part of the world or your body. Trust that you can handle whatever lies there. Share your experiences with others and do your best to remain open and honest. We are all on this path together, as a sangha (or spiritual community) we have the strength and experience of all those around us and all those who came before.
